What do you do when you have too many talents and interests as far as making a career change?

I am currently in a quandry. I want to move on career wise, but I have a lot of talents and interests. How do you know what to pursue? Any help here? What do you do when you have too many talents and interests as far as making a career change?
Nick,

First of all, it is not possible to have too much talent or too many interests. You will never learn all there is to know about anything. There is always something to learn.

That said, you should first decide not what you are interested in but what you are truly passionate about. It takes much more than an interest in something to become successful at it.

I have many interest. However, I have only one passion. That is the option that I have chosen as my own business.

And yes, your own business is a far better advantage than a career. Simply because in your own business, you are the creator of your success. You decide what your time limits are. You set your own goals and you determine what you want your income to be. In a career, someone else will always be in control of all these aspects.

So before you make a decision of any kind, learn how to identify your passion. Then learn how to fuel that passion for your success.

If you would like, I have an article about this subject. It is too long for answers messaging but if you will email me at bonnieram1962@yahoo.com I will be glad to email you a copy. Just let me know that you want the article on fueling your passion.

I wish you all the best in whatever path that you choose.

I have this problem too. I want to do everything, so I get frustrated and do nothing or choose the wrong thing.

I think the best thing to do is figure out which of the things you like can be easily done on the side as a hobby or small business. Then seek a career in the other, while continuing your hobby on the side.
You sound like a ';scanner.'; There was an interesting book written on the subject, but I can't remember the name of the book or author. You could google ';scanner'; and see what you get.

A scanner is one who does something for a while until s/he masters it, gets bored and moves on. We scanners are usually highly intelligent and have many talents.

Another suggestion is to try a career placement test, such as the Meyer-Briggs test. It could help you narrow the field. Good luck!
Hi Nick,

I believe the trick here is to separate your interests from your passions and focus on a career change that targets the latter. There is an excellent book called ';What Color Is Your Parachute'; by Richard Nelson Boles that directly addresses your question. This book is extremely well written, entertaining, and one major section takes you through the process of finding your ultimate career and then getting it! This book has been a staple of job seekers for many years and is full of valuable advice for anyone who is job seeking.

Best of Luck to You,

Loren
