How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?

I'm 25 - I've did art and photography up until age 18. I'd now like to move into Graphic Design (mainly online - but like to know some print skills too.)

I'm thinking of taking a year out to do a course in London - can anyone give me any tips or recommend a course? I thought that this one looked pretty good:

I'm open to all suggestions - really appreciate your help with this! How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?
hi darling, here are the things you need to take into consideration:

1. design is physically consuming, it will hurt your neck and shoulder terribly in a long run, and you may risk of long term disability

2. designer are not paid very well, you will need to expect 拢18k - 拢20k as a BA graphic design graduate, and after 4 years in the industry, if you are lucky, you'll get paid around 拢35k.

3. after become a senior designer, lots of people wants to move away from design to product manager, project manager, design manager for the above 2 reasons, so you may want to reconsider this change

4. think carefully whether you want to do a creative job, or you want to do a visually creative job, sometimes maybe you want to be a copywriter - they are extremely creative people and contribute an awful lot to creative ideas, but you may think the only creative job is art director.

5. also think about who do you want to work for, what kind of work would interest you, and find out what is the salary like for this kind of job and then see if you still wants to do it

6. the course you picked sounds really good, and it fits in with your situation perfectly, but i wouldn't quite your current job, ask them that you want to work 3 days a week, or take a sabbatical year. don't give up your current job for this course. How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?
I'm a graphic designer.

What do you mean by online? Do you mean web design? Graphic design and web design look similar but they are actually apples and oranges. Both fruits but two entirely different methods.

Graphic design is mostly done in print. Requires extensive knowledge of programs like Photoshop, Ilustrator, QuarXpress, InDesign, etc. Web design is more about programming and coding as well as some Photoshop. If you want a career in either, you'll need to take some college courses- realistically, at least two years worth (full time). BUT the benefit is that there are lots of job out there in those fields.

I'm taking a course from the my local community college on html. You should look into your local community colleges. It's a great place to start.
Good graphic designers are good problem solvers. Having a background in marketing should suit you well. I don't think it's necessary to have to go to London to get a good education, but if that is your desire, then go for it. I went to the University of Alberta, and their design program is recognized as being of very high quality. Also there is ACAD in Calgary (Alberta College of Art + Design) and it specializes in design.
First of all if I were you, Would take some basic courses in graphic design, not on line. You need to acquire some basic skills of design before moving to other media such as computer graphic design. Once you have the basics, you will move quickly to other media with no problems. Design is Design and the media you use is secondary. good luck.
If you want to work online - learn flash. That is the big thing now a days and it is fairly complex. Also learn a little HTML and Action sript if you can. The are not design work but they will help you better understand. Other than that just your basic Graphic Design Classes will do. you know: PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Drawing and scetcking, Typography, Layout and Design. Just to name a few.
