How does a 49 year old web designer change careers?

It's hard keeping a job in a design field. It seems people either like what you do or don't. You can have 5 who love your work and 5 who hate it. It's all subjective. As a designer, you're at the mercy of weather people like your work or not. And the designer is the first to go when layoffs come around.



My friend is a web designer. She does flash, dreamwewaver photoshop ETC.. She's very artistic. She's also middle age.



How can my friend change carrers? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I suggest setting up your own website with a portfolio and offer your services as a freelance designer. Freelance work is more relaxed because you can do it straight from your home.
