How old is too old to begin external studies for an unrelated career change?

Thats probably cutting it close, however if you can pull it off, then you aren't too old. Id say retirement age is definitely too old.How old is too old to begin external studies for an unrelated career change?
Being old is not the question. In some countries age discrimination may play a role. Many people work well beyond the time the government sets as the retirement age. I believe a persons usefulness determines on whether he should expand into other occupations or other areas in the same field of study.
never to old, gather ye rosebuds while ye may
I think the word dead applies here. You can make changes anytime. no one wrote a rule book that said (NO) more changes after 48? Did you see this in a memo from God, because I did not get that one.
You are never, ever, ever to old. Ever. I'm in college and there are women there that are over the age of 60. I admire and respect any woman that can go for what they want. These women are so brave and inspirational. I really look up to them. Though they are scared to death, they work hard, and are so proud when they complete their learning. You will be too! Don't give up what you want just because of your age or anything. You will be so glad you did. Good luck!
You still have a minimum of 16 years left to work if you plan to work to 65. A career change may actually help you to slow things down. If, for example, you become a financial planner, you could work part time, but affiliated with a known bank.

If you can down-size your life while you study that could be useful. A good book to read (hillarious, entertaining, but informative) is Fat, Forty and Fired.

So, I don't think that there is a single answer for this.
