How can I truly know if a career change is in store for me?

I am at a crossroads in life and am contemplating a job change toward the end of this year, October 2009 to be exact. I know the economy is in the toilet right now, but after 30 years at the same job, I have a chance to cash out and try something new. My gut tells me to go for it, but my brain is telling me to stay put. If the economy wasn't so terrible I would jump at the chance to do something different.

October 09 is a while away. No need to make a decision now. I'd wait a few months and see where the economy is heading. Many economists are predicting the beginning of the turnaround by summer, and if they're right, October may just be the right time to get into something new.How can I truly know if a career change is in store for me?
