How to change careers from a pharmacists to anesthesiologist?

Well, you're either a) getting a Pharmacy degree or b) graduated with one.

So if you don't have the degree yet, finish it (with awesome marks, hopefully.) Make sure that you have the medical school prerequisites for the country you're applying in.

If you do have the degree, then buy a copy of your transcript from your University and find out what classes you might need before you apply to medical school.

If you have them all, then you can apply. The organization you apply to differs from country to country.

After you graduate from medical school (hopefully with awesome marks again) then you can apply to an Anesthesiologist residency (which is like an apprenticeship) and get trained in the field.

Career change: how do I get into magazine editing? I have a finance background.?

I have been thinking recently of a career change. I graduated with a Business %26amp; French degee and have been working for the last two years in finance. I live in London and would love to get into magazine editing. I think I'm much better with words than numbers! Where would I even begin to find a way to get into the industry?

Prefereably I'd love to get into fashion / lifestyle magazine work but I am clueless as to where I'd start. How does one build their way up in such an industry?

Am I at a total disadvantage with 2 years finance experience?Career change: how do I get into magazine editing? I have a finance background.?
I put 'magazine editing' into the search bar and there are a few sites you could look at and books about it you could buy.I would imagine a grounding in journalism would help.My son is a graphic designer for a magazine publisher and loves his job.Career change: how do I get into magazine editing? Is 23 too old for a career change?

I did a university course in biology and just finished it with a 2.1 I don't think I want to go into a career in science any more. During my time spent there I've had a lot of opportunity to think about my life and I'd really like to become a car mechanic. The problem is I don't know how to start. Is 23 too late to get an apprenticeship if I find a dealership? Is 23 too old for a career change?
I don't think you're too old. What you may want to consider/look into is taking some community college courses on auto repair/mechanics. It may help give you a boost while you are looking for apprenticeships at dealerships or garages. Sometimes you can even earn apprenticeships through the courses. Good luck!Is 23 too old for a career change?
Absolutely not too late! Go for it and good luck.
You can take a course while you are still working. The hard thing after is to get a job. There are so many makes it would a good idea to specialise ie; ford vauxhall etc. Dave
Absolutely not a lot of tradespeople I know started in in their twenties. I know an auto mechanic who has had baad experiences with apprentices screwing him around. If you're smart and willing to learn, you shouldn't have too much trouble. My advice is, if you want to become an auto mechanic is find a smaller shop. It will give you more hands-on opportunities to learn. The mechanic I know just has his own shop with three apprentices or former apprentices (including a 25-year-old girl who just got her papers!). Just acknowledge that the pay will suck for a while and you won't be licensed until you're about 28. Auto mechanic apprenticeship programs usually have a classroom component, so talk to your local college (in Canada) or trade school (in the US)
Lol. Hardly. I changed careers at 32. Very successfully too. 23 is a BABY! I only started uni at that age!
if it's what you want to do, go for it
I'm 21 and I'm still in college trying to decide what i want to major in, but I've found a great way to make money fast. Work from home marketing products online It's worked for me. Check out this link and watch the video it's risk free.

Good luck!
23 is not late at all.

Ask yourself the question why would you like to become a mechanic? Just to make sure that you are spending your energy on chasing the right career, why not ask a local mechanic if you can help out for a while to make sure that this is the career for you. Even though you would be working for free, it would be time very well spent as it would mean that you now KNOW instead of just think that this career is right for you.
no not at all its all just begining for me

I want to do a career change to become a teacher in a primary school can any1 give me advice on how to do it?

My main concern is that i have little teaching experience and i want to get a foot in the door. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting some voluntary work at a primary school in london and also on what the procedure is to to become eventually a primary school teacher.I want to do a career change to become a teacher in a primary school can any1 give me advice on how to do it?
You must have a college degree to be able to teach. If you don't go for one become a para or teaching assistant and learn as you go.

I'd like to change careers but am not sure what to get into. Passions are travel and gadgets. Any suggestions?

I've been working for a major ad agency for the last 4 years and am interested in changing professions. I love traveling and gadgets but am not sure what careers are out there in those fields or how to go about finding them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I'd like to change careers but am not sure what to get into. Passions are travel and gadgets. Any suggestions?
Travel Agent school. Some of the bigger agencies have a school associated with them. Part of the job involves a lot of travel. You will no doubt be using high tech on the job as well. I'm looking into the same thing at the moment. Speak to some of your local travel agencies. Some may not even require the schooling.I'd like to change careers but am not sure what to get into. What about engineering, my husband is an electrical engineer and he travels a lot and works on a lot of different gadgets.

  • Need help with resume and career change?

I just graduated from A technical school and got a AA degree in legal studies (Paralegal), sadly I have absolutely no office experience. All of my experience has been related to a factory floor. How do I set up a resume to ';get the foot in the door';Need help with resume and career change?
Do you have any interning/volunteer experience in a law office? If not, then here's what I would say:

Objective: An entry-level position as a paralegal (possibly paralegal trainee) to further my professional experience

    Experience: Whatever your jobs are

Proficient in: Whatever computer programs you can use

You may have a difficult time finding a job with no office experience so I suggest you try a temp agency to get the office experience (they will test your proficiency in various programs and also your typing speed).

After you have gained some office experience, try a temp agency which specializes in legal staffing positions.

You may also have to start out as a receptionist or legal secretary to gain the necessary law office experience.

Check the career center at your school; perhaps they have some contacts.

I want to change my profession to teacher. How do I do this online?

I need to keep working during the day. I want to go to college under the TEACH GRANT. Are there any online schools utilizing the TEACH GRANT so I can change careers? Graduated HS. Went 4 years to trade school but they LOST my transcripts so I would be like a starting freshman. Any advice would be most helpful. Been wanting to teach for 16 years and now they have a grant that will pay for it. I want in on this. Any help, thanks.I want to change my profession to teacher. How do I do this online?
I don't know where you are located, but in California, you would have to earn a bachelor's degree before you can begin a teaching credential program. You can't substitute teach without a BA or BS either. Other states requirements are a little different, but they all require the BA degree. If you didn't get that degree from your trade school, start by trying to get that degree. If the trade school lost your transcripts, or more likely, never kept good records, then you will have to start over. While online schools don't carry the same status as brick and mortar universities, some universities offer many courses on-line. California State University East Bay (formerly Hayward) offers some degree options, though not all, online. It is a perfectly acceptable university as it is a part of the state university system. Chapman University in California and some of the State Universities offer teacher credentialing programs partially on-line. I know there is one that is exclusively online, but you will still need to do student teaching and meet with a professor. Look into the universities near you, you may be surprised that many of the courses are offered on-line and you could take the remainder as night courses. After you finish your BA or BS, you'll need to enroll in a credentialing program. These take one year in California. Financial aid, grants and loans are usually made available on a financial need basis, so you may qualify for assistance. Talk to an adviser and try to plan out your course work before you begin. It will save you time and money.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your career change!I want to change my profession to teacher. How do I do this online?
Hi, don't you have your degree with your transcript from your trade school. You could use that just make a copy of your transcript, and send it to the school of choice, just let the school know that they lost your transcript but you have copy's. Hope this help.

    Beverly
Honestly, online schools are not given much credibility during the hiring process at most schools, and they may not even be acceptable institutions for the Teach Grant program. As you know, the school you enroll in also must have chosen to participate in the program. Maybe I'm biased, but I can't even imagine an online program being very good at teacher prep.

You might want to look into a teaching fellows program, since you already have work experience. Most major cities (NY, DC, Philly, Chi) have such programs in place, and you receive on-the-job training and support, plus you might be elegible for grants too. I can't vouch for their quality or success though.

Your best bet is to start college over (';lost transcripts';...really??), maybe at the community college level, which offers more night-time courses so you can still work during the day. However, going part time will take you longer. The 3rd and 4th years of college will be tough; you may have to bite the bullet and transfer to a college/university where you will attend full-time during the day. At that point, you'll want to be done with college quickly anyway.

Also, you will have to commit to teaching in an underserved community, which means working with poverty, class, substance abuse, violence and racial issues. Think very carefully about making this career change: if you don't examine it from all possible angles, good and bad, you will end up making another career change down the road. You're not 22 anymore (I'm assuming), it's a lot harder to teach now than it was 10 or 20 years ago, and you *will* be given the most difficult population to serve in the most difficult circumstances. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but there are some very real facts you need to consider.
Grand Canyon University has a very good online program and is known for its college of education. My friend works there for their online college of education (which has been rated top 10 in the nation for several years) and he enrolled me, he can also send you all the links and everything for the TEACH grant. You can either call him at 1-877-547-2134 or e-mail him at mbanks@online.gcu.edu and he can not only e-mail you a ton of info but can also get you set up with a FA advisor to go over the TEACH stuff with you. Good luck

Anyone going through a career change? How to conquer the fear?

Any advice on how to figure out what your're supposed to be doing in life?Anyone going through a career change? How to conquer the fear?
I have always found a career change to be easier when I did it for the love of the new job, and not for an increase in salary.

Make sure that the new field you choose is really something that will connect with your heart, mind and soul.

Also consider that the very same job can be quite different in different locations.

For instance, if I were a cocktail waitperson, I'd hate to work in Las Vegas, with all of the negative energy and drunks. But I think it would be great to do the same job on Waikiki Beach in one of the resort hotels with an outdoor area boardered by the ocean.

Usually when I change jobs I relocate...not sure why...but I know it helps that I minimalize my life and do a major ';stuff'; inventory when I move.

I'm saying this because IF you can minimize your cash flow needs for the first year, you can focus more on fitting into your new job AND your new location.

Be willing to work extra hours at first, to learn the ropes, but also listen closely to your co-workers if they hint that you may be overdoing it.

Don't worry about trying to fix what isn't broken, and make a REAL effort to be a listener and not so much a commentator during your early time there. In fact, that's just a general good rule of thumb where ever you work.

Always talk to a number of people who are already in your field of choice, so that you can get a composite view of the perks and pitfalls. No job is perfect, but some are more perfect than others.

If you are very young, never rule out the military as an option for three years. You'll not only have your choice of schools if you have decent smarts, but you will likely be stationed somewhere you might not have otherwise visited in your entire life. If you do that, as an Army veteran I give a 100% endorsement to the Navy (Big Smile--but sincere)

Finally, look for places you can volunteer, or do an internship if you are still in college. These non-paying gigs can really open a lot of doors, so that by the time you graduate, the world is a bigger Oyster than it might have been, had you isolated yourself.

Blessings on you and your chosen future!Anyone going through a career change? How to conquer the fear?
Give it a red hot go
dont be a pu$$y. Its as simple as that.
Just follow your heart and keep a positive attitude.

Have any of you changed career paths at a later stage to most, gone back into education aged 18+?

I cant decide whether to take my A-levels or not, but am worried incase i feel ive made the wrong decision in a few years time. Have any of you found yourself in a simular situation and go back into education? How did you find it?Have any of you changed career paths at a later stage to most, gone back into education aged 18+?
I did, but it was HARD. I was out of school mode for many years, I was a single parent so I had to wait even longer because I had to save money for school and babysitters as well as work full time.

If you do wait and go back later, do it when you're still on your own so you don't impact anyone else.

If I wanted to change careers, how would I go about it?

My background is Human Resources. I've been working in some capacity in this field since 1996 and am starting to think that I might be getting a bit burned out. What can I do to change careers? What would be a good avenue to explore coming from this type of background?

Thanks for your help.If I wanted to change careers, how would I go about it?
People do one of two things - one, they get their degree then look for thejob they want, or two, they pick the job they want and pursue the qualifications they need to get it. The second is a much more reasonable approach. You didn't specify your level of responsibility, so if you don't have a degree, then you might consider one so you can elevate to doing what you do at a higher level. If you are already in a management position, consider how you add value to the company. That's the point that you are going to have to sell to someone else.

There are tons of careers that depend on an ability to deal effectively with people, and your background definitly supports this. I would think that you might consider being a job recruiter. There could be a little travel involved with some of those positions.

Something else you might consider - Is it that you are burned out doing HR, or are you just tired of your company? Would doing the same sort of job for a different outfit make you happier?

Draft your resume and float it out there, but don't do it from work - many companies monitor their employees' web traffic, and this type of activity could get you fired, or make your work environment unfriendly.

How do you do a lateral career change out of an industry (sales) without having to go back to school?

Just honestly answer a simple question: what are you good at with your current education and experience? How do you do a lateral career change out of an industry (sales) without having to go back to school?
A lateral change just means that you aren't getting an increase in pay or a promotion of position.

School plays no role in it and it can be done at jobs where no education is required.

How does one go about a career change with a liberal arts degree? Tired of being a teacher...?

It's really frustrating when you can't get a decent paying job in your own field and can't really do much technical stuff either. Am I doomed to poverty? How does one go about a career change with a liberal arts degree? Tired of being a teacher...?
No you are not! A teacher myself, I have taken a different route and now write textbooks in the field I used to teach in. I just started this, so I am winging it, but looks promising. I don't know what you taught, but think of the many ways you can take that skill into the private sector somehow.

See the books ';Where The Jobs Are'; and ';Second Careers'; at the library. Full of great ideas and helpful resources. How does one go about a career change with a liberal arts degree? Tired of being a teacher...?
*LOL* One of the few things I took away from college was a quote by one of the instructors. ';A degree tells an employer that you're trainable';, which means, unless you're in a very specific field (medicine, law, etc.), as long as you have a degree and can be trained, you have flexibility.

Decide what you want to do, determine the qualifications, learn, and go for it. Good luck.

How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?

I'm 25 - I've did art and photography up until age 18. I'd now like to move into Graphic Design (mainly online - but like to know some print skills too.)

I'm thinking of taking a year out to do a course in London - can anyone give me any tips or recommend a course? I thought that this one looked pretty good:

    http://www.lcc.arts.ac.uk/courses/graphic_design/diploma_digital_design.htm

I'm open to all suggestions - really appreciate your help with this! How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?
hi darling, here are the things you need to take into consideration:

    1. design is physically consuming, it will hurt your neck and shoulder terribly in a long run, and you may risk of long term disability

    2. designer are not paid very well, you will need to expect æ‹¢18k - æ‹¢20k as a BA graphic design graduate, and after 4 years in the industry, if you are lucky, you'll get paid around æ‹¢35k.

    3. after become a senior designer, lots of people wants to move away from design to product manager, project manager, design manager for the above 2 reasons, so you may want to reconsider this change

    4. think carefully whether you want to do a creative job, or you want to do a visually creative job, sometimes maybe you want to be a copywriter - they are extremely creative people and contribute an awful lot to creative ideas, but you may think the only creative job is art director.

    5. also think about who do you want to work for, what kind of work would interest you, and find out what is the salary like for this kind of job and then see if you still wants to do it

    6. the course you picked sounds really good, and it fits in with your situation perfectly, but i wouldn't quite your current job, ask them that you want to work 3 days a week, or take a sabbatical year. don't give up your current job for this course. How do I change careers - to get into online Graphic Design from Marketing?
    I'm a graphic designer.

What do you mean by online? Do you mean web design? Graphic design and web design look similar but they are actually apples and oranges. Both fruits but two entirely different methods.

Graphic design is mostly done in print. Requires extensive knowledge of programs like Photoshop, Ilustrator, QuarXpress, InDesign, etc. Web design is more about programming and coding as well as some Photoshop. If you want a career in either, you'll need to take some college courses- realistically, at least two years worth (full time). BUT the benefit is that there are lots of job out there in those fields.

I'm taking a course from the my local community college on html. You should look into your local community colleges. It's a great place to start.
Good graphic designers are good problem solvers. Having a background in marketing should suit you well. I don't think it's necessary to have to go to London to get a good education, but if that is your desire, then go for it. I went to the University of Alberta, and their design program is recognized as being of very high quality. Also there is ACAD in Calgary (Alberta College of Art + Design) and it specializes in design.
First of all if I were you, Would take some basic courses in graphic design, not on line. You need to acquire some basic skills of design before moving to other media such as computer graphic design. Once you have the basics, you will move quickly to other media with no problems. Design is Design and the media you use is secondary. good luck.
If you want to work online - learn flash. That is the big thing now a days and it is fairly complex. Also learn a little HTML and Action sript if you can. The are not design work but they will help you better understand. Other than that just your basic Graphic Design Classes will do. you know: PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Drawing and scetcking, Typography, Layout and Design. Just to name a few.

How do I change careers from business to physical therapy?

Should I attend a 2-year or 4-year school? How do I change careers from business to physical therapy?
First, PT is no longer offered as a bachelor's degree...it is either a master's or doctorate level degree.(although if you want to become a physical therapy assistant, this can be done at the associate's level and usually does not require any preparatory coursework).

If you have a bachelor's degree already, you might have to just take the prerequisite courses that you did not get with you business degree. This generally involves a lot of bio, chem, physics, pscyh, etc. You could probably take most of these courses at a community college if they offer the ones you need.

If you do not have a BS already, you will most likely need to enter a four year college until you can apply to the graduate level program. You will also need to prepare for the GRE.

I would suggest you first go to the APTA website at: http://www.apta.org and go to the educational programs section. Check out the requirements for the school in which you are interested, and begin taking any of the prerequisite courses you have not already had.

Good luck. How do I change careers from business to physical therapy?
    PT , is a 4 year degree .
well if u want to be well prepared, u should go to a 4 year school
In general, Physical Therapy would be an in-depth medical career. Most positions, outside of secretary for a physical therapist, would require a minimum of a 4-year degree. Physical Therapy is not a career to be taken as lightly as standard business. In business, a mistake may mean the loss of clients and money; in therapy, it could mean a death by malpractice.
Your college has academic advisors who will assist you in your course of studies. Some of the courses will be the same for both degrees: the general education requirements like English, math, history, philosophy, etc. You may attend a community college for these basic courses, but will need to go to a four year college to earn a degree in PT. It is a highly competitive field and they look for well rounded people with excellent grades.

    Best wishes to you!

    Hi,

The most important thing to remember about job searches is that you should use a combination of methods regardless of your location.

Networking - Register at your local Unemployment Office (you don't need to be on unemployment to register for their assistance). They often will have networking groups on a regular basis. They also are a good source for the jobs that never show up in the paper or online.

Check your local paper -- In many cases the paper's classified are now online.

Search Smart Online -- If you don't have a lot of time, spend most of your time at sites that aggregate the job feeds from several job search engines. Prominently these include indeed.com and thingamajob.com.

Organization -- I use a free online application that allows you to track your ads, jobs you apply for, send or print mail merged correspondence, and track your job search history. This site is jobsearchlog.com

    Good Luck,

  • How many times can you change careers?

I used to work in finance , now I am in advertising.Even though I like it , I cant help but think I might be better suited to be in human resources. Why am I so indecisive and how can I be happy with what I have without switching careers so much? Should I just follow my impulse and switch again? How many times can you change careers?
Generally speaking, frequent changes look bad on a resume, in your case, it sounds as though you are making progression changes. As long as you are lateral or elevated in pay scale and sit on a job for two years or better on average, you should be ok for a while. But try to settle, future employers do frown on hoppers.

How should a college educated 27 year old change careers?

I want to leave the hotel industry which I've been in since I was attending college and find a job using my B.S. in Marketing. What is a good direction to go and how can I best explain my desire to change careers without looking like I'm giving up?How should a college educated 27 year old change careers?
Depending upon how you have been employed in the hotel industry, it could be a big plus when trying to enter the marketing field. You have learned a lot about dealing with the public - and what the public wants.

Have you thought about looking for marketing work in the hotel industry? Or the travel industry? Use your work experience in conjunction with your college degree to make the transition a little easier. You're not giving up; you are looking to advance. How should a college educated 27 year old change careers?
You shouldnt have to 'explain' anything. Just go for it! Why should it look like you're giving up. Think of it as expanding your horizons. There's nothing wrong with growth and change- especially when it's for the better.
    Hello dear,

I think you have to do some short- term diploma courses to gain knowledge about that course with practical knowledge. it's cheaper + less time consuming + you easily understand that subject and use it in your profession in any field. And I suggest you to do some good computer courses with diploma or certificates and try your luck. Because today the boom of IT courses is best to supporting you to do unique with your background and gives you the platform.

    With best wishes,

    bye
To be successful in marketing one need to know the industry that he/she is trying to market.

I would suggest that you start with a marketing job in the hotel/hospitality industry. An industry you are already familiar with yet a role that uses your Marketing degree, not to mention you wouldn't be starting from completely ground up.

    Best wishes.

My wife wants a career change. How can we persuade her employer to lay her off?

She has been with this employer for over 20 years, so severence pay would be close to a years pay if 2 weeks were given per year of service. Another factor is that she's on her 3rd manager in 4 years, so she doesn't have a long track record with current management. My wife wants a career change. How can we persuade her employer to lay her off?
Is the company planning to lay off people? If not, there is not much you can do about it. If they are, just tell management that if they are having difficulty deciding who to let go, that she will volunteer to be the first to go.

When my company was closing, I told my supervisor that I wanted to be the first laid off and they honored my request. My wife wants a career change. How can we persuade her employer to lay her off?
Just tell her employer she started smoking weed...
So if she's not happy she should quit .... what is this that she wants to be laid off and draw a severance ?? They don't owe her that.

If the grass is greener on the other side, go for it.

What were Jesus's carpenting skills like, and why the career change?

If Christians believe that he and the lord are one in the same, did that mean he provided and extra good finish on patio decking? How good a carpenter was he? Was he a poor carpenter who lost a lot of his father's business, so decided to take up proselytizing? Did he balance two jobs for a while until the messiah thing started taking off? What were Jesus's carpenting skills like, and why the career change?
The Bible is silent on what type of carpenter Jesus was, but he had to do something while he waited until it was time to begin his ministry.

Anyone any advice on how to change career direction at 30?

I was cleaning for 12 years. I was great with a mop but not much else. I went on a part-time course at university so I was able to carry on working and paying the bills. I wrote to loads of funding organisations and got most of my course fees paid. I graduated yesterday and I've been working as a language interpreter for 9 months now.

It can be done! Go for it!!Anyone any advice on how to change career direction at 30?
do another degree. then apply to a graduate scheme.Anyone any advice on how to change career direction at 30?
What advice are you looking for? If you feel brave, just throw in the towel and start something different, or are you looking to study and gain a qualification before changing career?

It also depends on what your career is now, and what you're looking to do!
the job centre might help,if not try the jobs fairs in your area, good luck.
I changed career at 35 from retail (working in a Toyshop!) to a Support Analyst (Computing!). So it is possible.

    1. I made it possible by starting to learn something knew.

    2. I was also lucky enough to find a new employer who was more keen on someone who would have good customer facing skills than technical skills.

Now I run my own I.T. business =)

jobcentre they are great. they can also be found in nearly ever high street. well they are evrywhere here in london
More often than not, you will need to go back to college/university, this will take several thousand pounds and 3/4 years, and even then you may need to work your way up the corporate ladder after than.

I tried that a year and a half ago, I was desperate to get out of call centre work. I wound up getting another call centre job in a large multi-national and then after a year, I had got some training and got transferred to something not in a call centre.
Work part time in your current job, so that you have time to do a study for a career you aspire.

Don't throw it all overboard, because then in the end you may end up with nothing.
Do meditation and re-evaluate your potential and then decide what to do
Depends on whether you feel that you simply want to change jobs but use your existing qualifications, work experience and transferrable skills or whether you want to try something completely different.

Either way you could speak to Learn Direct on 0800 100 900, they can give free careers advice over the telephone or as suggested you could speak to someone at your local jobcentre. The local library is also another good place to start as they often have adult guidance sessions.

If after talking to someone you realise you may need to go to (or return to) college in order to gain some more qualifications you may be eligible for various types of financial support to help you do this. These include:

Career Development loan, (if you wish to follow a vocational course, full or part time) of between æ‹¢300 and æ‹¢8000

Adult Learning Grant - If you wish to study full-time for your first qualification at level two (GCSES) or level three (A-Levels, National Diploma) æ‹¢10 - æ‹¢30 per week. But this is only available in certain counties at the moment so it depends on where you live

Learner Support Funds - For help towards essential course costs e.g. fees, course materials etc. This help tends to be granted not loaned.

The Student Services department at your local college will be able to advise you of available financial support if you require this, including possible benefit entitlement.

If you want to go to (or return to) university, you may be eligible for grants and/or loans for tution fees and living costs, depending on whether you have studied at that level before and your household income. Your local county council (Local Education Authority) will have a Higher Education support section who could advise you.

Changing career direction is not easy but there are a lot of places to go for advice and support on how to go about it, hope this has helped you locate some of them.

I have been afraid of career change?

I have been a server for resturants for years and want a new career doing something else, but have no experience in anything else. How do I go about finding a new career and without having to go to school right now?I have been afraid of career change?
Find a copy of ';What Color Is Your Parachute?'; in your local library - it was designed for folks in just your situation.I have been afraid of career change?
I did the same thing. I left restaurants for an office job.

I found that I like computers and figured out a way to use that skill to get in to the office. Try receptionist jobs. Use your guest service background to get you into something that the people will teach you the rest.

Send out as many applications, resumes or whatever to get good at interviewing again. Tell the future employer what's in it for them to hire you, not what you want to do. Be passionate about service, about life, about working there and you'll get out of the restaurant business!

    Best of luck!

How to encourage my husband to change careers?

My husband hates his job. His dream job is to be a music video director, and he has been working at this for 10 yrs with no luck. I am trying to encourage him to look elsewhere in the same industry that may be more 'realistic' (of course not saying that directly) such as film editor. He also says he has no idea what he wants to do with his life. I suggest going to school to increase skills, but he says no way. This conversation has been repeating itself for at least three yrs, and resulted in him still at the same job. What should I do? I suggested the 'what color is my parachute book', and he looked at it but did not like it. Any suggestions, I feel really stuck! How to encourage my husband to change careers?
he is stuck and leary of change- until he hates the job enough - he won't budge- you have done your part and then some- just keep supporting and encouraging- DHow to encourage my husband to change careers?
He's obviously not listening to you OR he is too stubborn to admit defeat in front of you and really wants this to happen.

You need a third person that is a friend to both of you to understand your point of view and to express it to him. Does he have a friend that you trust and who trusts you that might be able to steer him to another possibility while he can still TRY to pursue his dream??!!
He already knows what he wants to do is not for him.I am sorry, but ten years is really long time to fail.Maybe you shouldn't encourage him.If he triys and fails again,he would be devastated.Just let him think about his future.I hated what i was doing for 11 years. But during that time i was so good at it,that every time i tried to quit, they would give me a raise or extra something. My point is i would feel the same for trying something for 10 years and failing. There is something that i loves to do and he is good at it.Just let him find out what it is on his own.

Can you suggest to me the best way to deal with this situation: Career Change?

I have found another job at a reputable company. They have checked my references and it all looks good. The only thing left to do is contact my current boss and do my criminal background check. I don't want my current employer to know that I am looking to leave the company until I have a firm offer from the new job. What can I do about this? Any suggestions on how to go about this? Thanks in advance for your answers. Can you suggest to me the best way to deal with this situation: Career Change?
I am very surprised that the new job wants to contact your present job. That is very unusual. Just so you know, the new job can only ask your present job how long you have been there. They can't ask ';So how is this person doing?'; Meaning they are not allowed to ask ';dirty'; questions about you. If possible, explain to the new job you would be happy to prove that you have worked there that long. (provide pay stubs, or tell your present employer you need a letter on company letter head for an apartment or something.) If the the new job hasn't made a firm promise to you about your future job, it's not a good thing. Normally the new job would hire you, then call the old job to get info. If you lied to get the job, they would fire you.

Has anyone made a career change into Nursing successfully?

I have a BS in Business, and have worked in banking for 10 years. I'm thinking of transitioning into Nursing, but I was wondering if anyone else out there has a similar experience and how it all worked out. I want to go back to school to become a Nurse, but don't know what to do with my Full time job. Any suggestions?Has anyone made a career change into Nursing successfully?
I was an accountant and after I had my family I decided to change career and do something that was more worthwhile and personally satisfying. I did volunteer work at my local hospital and then they asked me to join them as a health care assistant which I did for a year which gave me a real feel for the environment and helped me to decide whether nursing was for me. I went to university to study nursing for three years then got a job on a surgical ward as a registered nurse. I found that nursing was a true vocation and I loved being able to care for people, physically, emotionally and socially. However, after a few years of being there the love of the job has gone, its not the nursing, just the politics of healthcare, the conflicts with staff, the lack of equipment and supplies, the red tape and paperwork, the blame culture, the lack of organisational support, having to watch your back, not being able to make the smallest mistake without the organisation coming down on you like a tonne of bricks, the pressure of understaffing, the fact that more and more work is put upon you and they expect you to be able to cope, the fact that nurses are being expected to take on more doctors jobs on the ward without financial gain, and the inflexibility of rostering. And I've been fighting a pay dispute for over a year as I am not being paid enough. All in all, it was not how I expected it to be and it has been a real disappointment to me. I am seriously considering leaving.

I would suggest you apply to do some voluntary work at your local hospital but spend the time watching the work of the registered nurse, see if you want their stress level and their responsibility, the training takes a long time and you need to know what you are letting yourself in for. Good luck.Has anyone made a career change into Nursing successfully?
If your heart is into nursing, go for it! It is a lot of hard work and nursing programs are very competitive. I was able to find a program with many courses offered in the evenings or on weekends.

  • If you had a major career change why did u change your career?

how did you choose the job?

Has the job lived up to your expectation?

are you satisfied with your job or if you had the chance would you start all over again? If you had a major career change why did u change your career?
well, the most common reason why people change their career paths is that they're not happy with what they're in. Happiness in a career also means it's really what you wanna do. Meaning, it is your craft, your field, etc.... Some took a career for a 'need' and doesn't consider if it's really what he wants. Surely, he will not be happy with that.

Live you life... do what your heart says!If you had a major career change why did u change your career?
I was kind of half-assedly doing acting, but my job was secretarial. (Not really a career, but I'd been doing it for ten years, so I guess it might qualify.)

Then one day, I was fired. No warning, just that they were downsizing. And suddenly I had to--or rather, was given the opportunity to--pursue acting as a full-time career. What a gift that firing turned out to be!

How do I change careers and get into baking/pastry?

I'm currently working in a different field and want to change careers badly. My passion has always been cooking and baking, and I always dream of eventually having a catering business or bakery but realistically how expensive will it be and how long will it take? Also, I live in NJ so what culinary schools in NYC are the best and what are the likely salaries that I would be making if/when it all works out? Any links/helpful info would be very appreciated. Thanks!!How do I change careers and get into baking/pastry?
I would recommend working in a professional kitchen before thinking of going to school. School will give you a great basis to start from, but I don't think it really makes a huge difference. All refined techniques are learned on the job. It's much safer to start out actually working in the field rather than spending thousands of dollars on culinary school and then you end up hating your job. It takes a special kind of weirdo to be a kitchen person. There is absolutely no glamor as seen on food network. Days are long and hard but if your one of those weirdos who I spoke of, the industry can be very rewarding.

Also, keep in mind, starting out in this industry does not pay all that well until you're the boss or own the company. Then possibilities are endless but the kitchen can easily become your life. I don't mean to make it sound bad, because it's really not, but I definitely recommend testing the waters before shelling out for culinary school. Reading, watching TV and working in the industry can help propel yourself forward without ever stepping foot in a school.

If after deciding this is really what you want to do, I'm all for culinary school. You can learn a lot about the science of it all which most people don't think about in the real world.

The best of luck to you.How do I change careers and get into baking/pastry?

Apply for financial aid. Fill out the FAFSA and get money that you dont have to pay back. If you don't make very much, you can get almost all of your school paid for. Also, choose a school that uses FACTS tuition management, this allows you to pay your balance off monthly including books. How do I pursue a career change from truck driver to culinary arts(chef) without taking a loan out for school?
My brother was a chef for many years, although he had schooling, and my son is going to a culinary academy, my brother suggested not going to the academy (it's running $50,000) and instead going to work for free for a six month intern position at a restaraunt under a chef. If you can find one to do this for you. My son opted to go to the academy for the creditals.

How do i take my experience as a certified nursing assistant (cna) and put it in a resume to change fields.?

I have been a cna for almost 10 years and would liket to change fields. Yet, all my experience is in the healthcare field. How do I take that experience and put it in a resume to change into another field...such as in customer service... I feel that I have customer service experience due to the fact I work directly with people everyday and answer to several people all day... I want to change career fields but I need a good resume thats going to make employers want to see me... Can anyone tell me how to do this? HELP!!!!How do i take my experience as a certified nursing assistant (cna) and put it in a resume to change fields.?
The first thing to do is make an inventory of your transferable skills. To do this exercise, you need some quiet, pad of paper and your thinking cap. Here is what you do.

List all of the task and responsibilities you have handled while being a nursing assistant. Once you have that list, review it carefully and then line by line consider ';THE BENEFIT YOUR PATIENT OF EMPLOYER RECEIVED'; from each of the activities.

From this completed inventory, you'll be able to write a resume that is so much more than just an outline of where you have been. Transferable skills are the goal here. For example I would guess that a nursing assistant can handle:

Crisis management - ability to make rapid decisions and seek qualified guidance when situations suddenly change.

Keen prioritizing skills. Ability to prioritize multiple activities and events against the backdrop of mission critical environment.

Do you see the direction this is going? Good luck. How do i take my experience as a certified nursing assistant (cna) and put it in a resume to change fields.?
    http://www.rileyguide.com/resprep.html#t鈥?/a>
As a CNA, you have covered just about all aspects of customer relations. that alone in a resume, will get you far. I like the way you worded your experience in your own question. I would write this is a cover letter, and just include all employers in your resume. Your new job is waiting!

Career Change: Can anyone offer any advice about what might suit me and how to go about it??

I am 25 and have a first class degree in literature. I am also a qualified English teacher in a secondary school (this is my current job) and speak reasonably fluent French. I have good computer and telephone skills and can train employees. I am good at being organised and am not afraid of hard work.

I really need to earn more than æ‹¢25,000 and I don't want to work in sales, recruitment or marketing. I love literature and travelling and am very creative and artistic. Try advertising. You can combine all those skills for that.
big industry human resources - training and development - good luck - you are at the great age that is a new beginning - i wish i had made the change like you are doing. you have courage
Could you do a freelance journalist course to boost your income?
You can explore on your own at Washington state employment office web site.
Have you ever thought of teaching core french, or french immersion? I am not sure the equivalent but teachers in Canada make around $40,000 to start and go up to $80,000+. If you like to travel, you could stay a year at a school and move on. They are so in demand that you will be able to travel any where in Canada pretty much.

In Canada if you know French you have it made, any job you can think of in English you can do and have a really good chance of being hired if you know french as well.
why dont you try working with the international relations, i bet this will help with your 'pay'
You have got many good suggestions already but if you need some more food for thoughts and some fun while doing it,

just take a career aptitude test like this http://gsx1.com/free-aptitude-test.html it's free and you will be given results at the end, sometimes even jobs, and

there's a couple more tests here too http://www.job--listings.info/

hope it helped, take care and good luck!
Hello, you could look at becoming a translator, you could work along side the police or immigration, my friend does this and she loves it, she travels around the UK and Europe, she earns good money well over æ‹¢25,000 not sure how much the start rate is but she has gone self employed which suits her as she can pick and choose her hours.

You say you love literature, travelling and you are creative and artistic, why not combine them all and write a travel series from children or a light hearted book on foreign exchange trips there must be many funny stories on that subject and the research would be great fun.

best wishes and good luck to you.x

I am currently teaching but want to change careers. I have a BA in English and a PGCE in English, Media and Drama. All the Marketing jobs I have come across require a Marketing degree or qualification. Would a Masters in Marketing be enough to get me a job or would I need to have a degree in Marketing?

Any general information on how to make myself more employable in a Marketing position would also be much appreciated.

ThanksI have a BA in English but want to change to a career in Marketing. Will a Masters help or do I need a degree
I have an English degree and was a teacher before moving into Sales. I can't speak to marketing per se but found I didn't need a degree to get into sales. I highly recommend B2B sales -- the money is potentially terrific, it's my impression you have more control than you do in marketing and after teaching the pressure of sales doesn't seem that intense. Sellingpower.com publishes a list of companies that have good sales training programs for sales people, salesguy.org publishes various lists on selling and has a good newsletter and millerheiman.com has a good newsletter.

An Asst. Buyer position is still a marketing job so it would not be a major change. The decison to change careers involves a process you should be aware of. A mistake can be very painful and costly.

Here's a site that can help you make that decision. I do not have any business connection with this group but I always recommend them because they are very effective. The founder of this group is Richard Bolles, author of the best selling book, 'What Color is your Parachute?'

New York isn't a necessary residence address. What you need to do is determine which company you wish to work for. This would usually be a headquarters position, so wherever the headquarters might be is where you'll end up.

How to make career change from business to nursing?

    Hi all,

I currently have my B.S in Business Management and Finance and I would like to become an R.N. Do I have to go for another 4 years? Or is there another option? How to make career change from business to nursing?
you can enroll in a trade college, that what my daughter did

plus with your background in business you can do health management

When and how is the best way to make a career change besides gaining more education?

I am 35 years old and rebuilding my life. I have no money to go back to school. In addition, I have 3 years of unemployment during which time I was a housewife as I had no need to work. Which brings me to the next question, how do I explain that to future employers? When and how is the best way to make a career change besides gaining more education?
First, only you can answer the question of when the best time for a career change would be. Go with your gut, don't be afraid to assert yourself as this tends to lead to much better opportunities. Trust your instinct as confidence not only boosts your self worth but also shines with a potential new employer( trust me, confidence is a most sought after quality by employers) As for the 3 month hiatus, it's simple, explain it as a self reorganization and priority change. Even the most successful business people often take some time between job changes to evaluate their position as well as enjoy some much needed R%26amp;R. If your abilities, qualifications and interview performance are strong, a good interviewer will pay little to no attention to the 3 month employment gap especially in this economy. Look into a career field that interests you, do some research, submit an application and most of all when you get an interview, relax and remember to talk with confidence, make eye contact, engage the interviewer and be yourself....if you do all this, a door will be opened and opportunities will present themselves...Good Luck! When and how is the best way to make a career change besides gaining more education?
Now is the time and do something you love. Explain to them you were taking care of the household.

I need a career change bad. How do I get in to Aircraft Avionics sales ?

43 years old. I'm generally familiar with Avionics but have no direct experience in Avionics or sales. 15 Years Aircraft Dispatch experienceI need a career change bad. How do I get in to Aircraft Avionics sales ?
I work as an ';Aviation Specialist'; (or Account Executive) at Blue Star Jets in New York. I am happy there as they have given us excellent training and it is a very unique, special product. I am not sure where you live but if you live where they are hiring you could look into this. Otherwise, there are always local charter companies that try to sell their aircraft and or lease their aircraft. This is a huge industry now with plenty of career options. Good luck!I need a career change bad. How do I get in to Aircraft Avionics sales ?
The best source for everything avionics is the Aircraft Electronics Association. www.aea.net

There is a careers section and a listing section of every avionics type company that use the AEA. Avionics sales isn't very specific. There is General Aviation- selling installations. Corporate Business Jets, a whole other level of avionics sales and then Airline Divisions. I would check the AEA avionics section where you would just put in your location and all the participating shops in your area will pop up. Then do some researching for where you want to aim. My biggest suggestion is go towards corporate sales. Airlines are losing billions. And general aviation aircraft owners are basically cheap and its like pulling teeth to get them to upgrade their aircraft avionics. GA airplanes are toys and when times are tough and fuel is high, owners park their toys. Myself, being a 20 year avionics tech/manager/inspector would not suggest this field at this time.

How to word cover letter (career change)?

    Hi,

Since graduating school 14 years ago, I have worked in the fitness/coaching industry. Unfortunately this has resulted in several knee surgeries. It is now time to change careers but obviously im limited to sedentary type positions. Despite the knee injuries I'm in good health and still workout, but I just cannot commit myself to 40 hours in a physically demanding job.

I know my next job will be entry level in an office type setting, and I'm fine with that but my main concern is how to write my cover letter to explain my situation. I don't want to look like a sympathy case, neither do I want to look like I am constantly in pain and taking time of work.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.How to word cover letter (career change)?
For starters, how about staying in the fitness/coaching area, these businesses require the same administrative functions and related support as any other.

In addition, they will more understanding and supportive of your move into an office position in an area where you have knowledge and experience.

    Cover Letter Tip

    1. You don't need to explain an injury in a cover letter if you don't want to. The purpose of a cover letter is to get to the interview, you can explain your reasons later.

    2. If you do disclose your reason for the change, make it positive. You love the industry and wish to stay in it, however, your doctor is advising contributing in other areas.

    Hope this Helps,

GregHow to word cover letter (career change)?
First off, I wouldnt ever have to explain your situation to anyone. If you want a career change, thats your choice. As far as your medical conditions, another conversation to stay away from. Not anyones business. Your in great athletic condition as far as they know. Sell yourself on the things you know.

If they ask in an interview, just tell them you wanted to change careers since you felt you needed a change. Cover letters are online and on microsoft office with examples so check them out to the one you feel fits. Thats what I have been doing and changing them to the job I am applying for.

  • How to change career?

My partner is currently a chef, now, he is working long hours on his feet etc and is also diabetic. This career is really taking its toll on his health and in the last couple of months he has been admitted to hospital and is back and forth to the doctor with infections, stress...you name it.

I have helped him write killer resumes and letters to employers in different sectors so he could maybe get a more normal 9-5 sort of position. However, its not working.

What would be the best way to get your his foot through the door without making it sound like a sob story or without too much desperation???How to change career?
Well you dont say which kind of employment he has been going for so it is hard to suggest ways to get his foot in....unless he is just going for office type jobs...is he getting to interview? If he is then something is wrong in his presentation...if not then his CV's aren't killer.

Why can't he go to college to re-train? Or start his own catering business? How to change career?
It will sound bad but how about telemarketing or teleservices - the pay is good, they are all over the nation, schedules are flexible, they will take into consideration health reasons and make accommodations, most you don't need experience!
by opening the window of your brain you can change any thing

Considering a career change...how much can a female car salesperson expect to make in an Ontario Dodge dealer?

I currently work in a retail environment and I'm considering applying for a job in a Dodge dealership. Just wondering what an average monthly salary would be? Appreciate knowledgeable answers from Canadian car salespeople...

Thanks!Considering a career change...how much can a female car salesperson expect to make in an Ontario Dodge dealer?
Car salesmen are paid on a percentage of the profit of the sale. This percentage varies from dealership to dealership but usually runs in the 20% to 25% range.

Some dealerships use ';sales teams.'; In this method, one salesperson will give you the test drive, do the write-up, etc. and the ';team manager'; will close the deal.

In this case, they share the commission so if you buy a new car for, say, $300 over the invoice cost, the salesman may earn only a $50 to $75 commission.

In addition to his commission, though, the salesman can earn bonuses that are available from both the dealership and the manufacturer for good sales performance.

Usually bonuses - or ';spiffs'; - are offered to any salesman who sells, say, over 8 cars in a month. ';Spiffs'; may also be offered for meeting certain profit goals (for example, selling a car for $1,000 over the invoice cost), selling certain profit-making extras (such as paint or fabric protection, alarms, extended warranties, etc.), selling a particularly hard-to-sell vehicle, and so on.

According to a recent national survey, the average commission for car salesmen is $250 per vehicle sold. The average selling price per vehicle is about $1,000 over the invoice cost. And the average number of cars sold is 8 to 10 vehicles per salesman per month.

But I would say that being a woman you could do alot better because you will have more patience when it comes to the customer, good luck.Considering a career change...how much can a female car salesperson expect to make in an Ontario Dodge dealer?
I used to sell cars and both female salespeople sold more cars than I did. One didn't know squat about cars and the other was passingly knowledgeable.

It's all about closing the deal. People hate car salepeople because they are thought of as being pushy. If you can close the deal without seeming pushy, you can do well.
    Women typically do very well.

    It's hard for a man to tell you ';i can't afford it';

i've seen several women sell at dodge stores, and they made good money. Maybe 6000 usd per month.

How old is too old to change careers?

I'm currently working in manufacturing. For the past two years I've been layed off from time to time and feel that eventually the plant will close. I'm wondering if I should plan ahead and get a CNA degree while I'm still working. Even though I'm in good health and physically fit I'm feeling insecure about making this change because I'm 52. Serious feedback please...and wise cracks are welcome too.How old is too old to change careers?
It's never too late to change careers. Most people now a days won't be with the same company their entire working life. I am always up for learning new things and challenging myself. How old is too old to change careers?
I think you would be fine. There is a shortage in nursing right now, which means that employers would be much more open to nontraditional employees. Besides, you probably have much more patience now than you did in your early 20s, so you might be very good at it.
I would be very careful. You might want to talk to potential employers to see if they would hire a mid-50's old new-hire. My guess is they won't. It might be great for your own personal accomplishment, but economically it might make zero sense.

How to avoid changing career, when you have decided your career?

This is what happen: After I focused in one career for 6 months, then my mind wonder for other careers possibility ( this make my time split, half of it doing that one career, half of it trying to find other careers )

I guess in my case, this is the result if motivation or liking factor not one of consideration of choosing career, I could be motivated to do anything.

How could I solve this? ( when I like every career and I think all careers could be fun )How to avoid changing career, when you have decided your career?
I don't know how old you are, so please feel free to throw away any or all of the answer if it doesn't fit! I wonder how much time you have spent considering careers before choosing one to follow. A lot of people just go for a career--for lots of reasons--without really thinking it through. If you are young and just considering careers, it may be really normal to wonder about what your life would be like doing many different things. I think that it is REALLY important to like what it is that you do for a career. The chances of doing it well are increased if you like what you do. And if you do get into a career and decide that you don't like it, you can always change careers, even if it is difficult at times.

Two years ago, at our annual religious service to honor all those who had graduated from high school and college, one of the boys who won one of our scholarships said something that really makes sense to me when he was giving his acceptance speech. He said that he had chosen the career that he wanted to follow because his father told him to try a lot of things out through internship programs and to choose to do something with his life that he liked to do so well that he would do it for free. That just made so much sense to me. I personally like my career so much that I would do it for free if I had to! Most people though fall somewhere in the middle I think--they often don't really like what they do, but they don't really hate it either. Life's just like that sometimes I guess.

Good luck with whatever you choose! How to avoid changing career, when you have decided your career?
It's all a gamble, where you live, where you work, who your spouse is, who your friends are, etc.

Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

That is the chance you have to take.

Don't expect the best! It rarely happens.

Most of us get snake eyes.
Sounds like you have a making decision problem. Make a decision and stick to it. Or if you are young try out different careers.

Need a career change, anyone know how to get a creative job?

I've got a music degree, spent a year as an estate agent, worked in HR and now work in finance. Don't like any of these jobs but don't know what to do instead. Would like to do something with music maybe but I don't want to teach. Tried to get into marketing/advertising but don't have any qualifications. What other jobs are there that I could do? I don't want to study for something unless I'm sure I want to do it. All I know is that I like being creative.Need a career change, anyone know how to get a creative job?
Why don't you set up your own business that's related to music and using your creativity? It's better than getting qualifications to enter the Marketing or Advertising fields.Need a career change, anyone know how to get a creative job?
Better you create a music troup.

Im 24 and I want a career change as a hairdresser how do i go about it?

well, i'm working in hospitality right now and i want a career change as a hairdresser. do I need to go to college again and start from scratch? if so, how many years do I need to take to get qualifications? I don't want to waste anymore time for three years if that's the case. what's the best and quickest way forward? thanksIm 24 and I want a career change as a hairdresser how do i go about it?
Go to a local hairdresser school. They usually only take about 1 year, then you need 100+ hours of cutting hair in a salon to get licensed. It varies by state.Im 24 and I want a career change as a hairdresser how do i go about it?
I think it is maximum 3 years maybe to become a really good qualified hair dresser..so its not that long to become one. Try applying so you can get entrance this year itself.
maybe you could get an apprenticeship through your local college.

that way you can get a bit of money whilst you learn.
Your best bet will be to get an apprenticeship in a salon, that way you will learn on the job. You will have to study at the same time, but also have the hands-on experience in the salon.

    Wanna change career...but how?

    Hi people,

I graduated in Multimedia Computing, went into web design for 2 years and now I am 26 and jobless and really fed up with designing to people's boring, limited specs! I don't think I wanna do design as a career anymore, instead I think I want to work in charity - as either a fund raiser, or even online marketing. But all in all I don't actually know what I want to to definitively, which is very scary and weird as I have studied a lot!

I am looking for anything to get me by in the mean time but for the long term how can I figure out what area I want to work in so that I can at the very least get job satisfaction and make acceptable/decent money?

I'd appreciate any suggestions if you've gotten this far!

Career change - How do I begin a career doing special effects for movies?

I'm in my early 40s and am accountant. My dream job has always been to do special effects for movies, both computer generated and miniature. I already build beautiful miniatures and think I would do great. So where and how do I start this move? Something else too, one of my coworkers told me its too late and that I was too old - I don't agree, what do you think?Career change - How do I begin a career doing special effects for movies?
Don't believe in any discouragement, you are not old!!!

Read this to help you start your career:

    http://www.fxsupply.com/features/careers鈥?/a>

Good luck.Career change - How do I begin a career doing special effects for movies?
You already have a knack for building miniatures so that is where your focus should be. So much of the special effects we see on screen these days are CG but there is still a demand for model builders and miniature builders.

If you wanted to do CG special effects you would have to go back to school and learn 3d modelling and texture mapping, among other things. Unless you are already doing these things as a hobby then I would say that you're too old to break into computer generated special effects.

    Most importantly, from this day on, you have to ask yourself ';what did I do today to get me closer to my dream job?';

If you have no answer to that question day after day then you're obviously not that dedicated to the dream and you should probably just give up. You have chosen a dream job that requires a tremendous amount of talent and commitment to realize. You will have to work extremely hard to turn a hobby into a career.

    Good luck!

There is a lot of information there, so you may want to research some of the top companies in your area, then try to work for one of them. Hopefully eventually you will start your own business.
Have you taken a course for it. I know it should not be that difficult but nowadays there are so many people doing the same thing that would be the first thing i think of. And maybe liasing with shops that sell wedding gowns or start advertising in a local free newspaper...
go to a wedding show and talk to some professionals

Plan a party for about 100 people and see how it turns out - weddings are big parties and if you can run one of your own you will get a feel for it-

This is not an easy job - I did event planning for 4 years and it basically means you work weekends and nights ...do you really want that?

  • Resume suggestions and Career Change Suggestions?

I am looking to change careers. I am 34 years old and a home loan officer for a major bank. I have been at my current company for over 5 years and have been in telesales/call center ever since I graduated from college. I am so burned out from sales and although I don't know what to do next, I know I need a more stable job, so that means no sales.

I have found a few interesting job postings for Assistant Director at a library, Librarian and some other different positions. I would like to apply, but don't have experience. However, I know that I could do a good job because I am a quick learner.

How can I make my resume attractive to an employer? I have a bachelor's degree in English and computer and sales skills. I have been a team leader at a previous job, so I know that I work well with subordinates. How do I get this across on paper?Resume suggestions and Career Change Suggestions?
Sometimes when you are trying to make the best impression you can with your resume, (and who isn't?) you may want to take a look at a sample resume. Doing this can be a valuable guide and give you a good idea of whether you are heading in the right direction with your resume.

Going to Google and typing in ';sample resume'; will search out a plethora of websites where you can look at a sample resume. These sites will also offer a lot of other information to help you in your quest for the perfect resume. They may list some common mistakes to avoid, some may seem very obvious and some will be more helpful than others.

Everyone knows, or should know, that spelling and/or grammatical errors can be the kiss of death to your resume. This will say to the employer that you are careless; he or she may feel you are not a good writer, and if you don't care enough to make sure your resume is perfect, how conscientious would you be as an employee? You will never see any errors like this on a sample resume.

A high-quality sample resume will also highlight accomplishments as opposed to duties. The employer wants to know what you have done, and done well, not only the things you were assigned to do. Did you implement a new billing or filing system that saved the company some money? These types of undertakings speak to your innovative and ambitious nature and emphasize the fact that you are willing to go the extra mile and think outside the box.

A sample resume worth it's salt will also be specific to the position and company to which you are applying. Generalizing on your resume will make the employer feel like maybe this is just an attempt to get any job at all, and not that you really care about working for this particular company. Don't make this mistake. Do some research on the company, and be specific.

Another thing you will notice on a quality sample resume is the use of plenty action words, or verbs. Employers are impressed with words and descriptions that show what you have accomplished, some examples, or ';power verbs,'; as I like to call them, are ';utilized,'; ';created,'; ';resolved,'; and ';implemented.'; Don't be afraid to blow your own horn, humbly, of course, because no one else is going to!

This would also go hand in hand with leaving out important information, don't do that! Although there may be some jobs you held in the past that you feel may not be impressive to the employer, any skills that you picked up at these jobs, whether it be time-management, a word processing application, or even just some experience in office politics, might make more of an impression than you know. Don't sell yourself short.

So, look at a sample resume, but don't stop there, look at another, and another. One sample resume may be completely different than the next, but all will help guide you in the creation of a resume which will hopefully get you the job you want.

http://www.amazing-resumes.comResume suggestions and Career Change Suggestions?
It is all about how you word your job duties under work experience. Different jobs that you apply for should have taylored resumes to match the skills required. For the library thing really push your computer (data structures) skills as well as your customer service skills. Ability to negotiate billing conflicts, deal with irate customers and proper telephone etiquette. Also push the team leader thing and ability to get along with co-workers.

Advice with a career change from animal work into child protection?

I have a degree and have been working with animals for many years now. I have decided I would like to change careers. Im interested in doing something with vunerable children i.e. a family/ child support worker or similar, but have got no clue how to go about it. I have read it is useful to have an NVQ3 in childcare but to obtain this u have to be working in a nursery setting, which i do not nor do I want to. Is there any other path i can take to obtain experience and entry into this qualification??Advice with a career change from animal work into child protection?
VQ's are practical qualifications and as such you have to have the practical experience

IF you want to work with vulnerable families/children then you have to have appropriate experience and/or qualifications

What about going down the Health and Social Care route. It is a more theoretical qualification

Maybe look at vacancies and see what qualifications and experience they ask for or see your local college for appropriate courses

I work with vulnerable families/children and students and all staff have VQ's at level 3 or 4 in Early Years.

Want to change career after having a baby. Midwifery?

Hi there, i am looking for a little advice....my baby daughter is now 7 months old and its time to make some decisions! I would be due to return to work in the next few months and am thinking for applying for a career break of 1 year to look after her and the decision i need to make is do i go back to my job (which im not happy in) or do i take the time whilst i am off to study for a new career? i am 26 now and would love to study Midwifery but i have found out is is a 3 year commitment and i am currently trying to figure out how long is spent in the classroom vs placement but im wondering if any of you know of any other jobs/careers that involve working with children/babies? more so i would prefer something helping women during the pregnancies/giving birth - is there anything else other than being a midwife that can be as rewarding? or not such a long study commitment before? im not really interested in nursery nurse/child minder. I feel i would not get this chance again to study if i don't take this chance now and i feel if i were to return to my usual job i'll be there forever!! any ideas/advice would be great. Thanks xWant to change career after having a baby. Midwifery?
You can also look into being a Douala or a lactation consultant. I'm not sure what the time commitment is for either of these things, but I imagine it would be a lot less than midwifery.

Good luck on whatever you choose!Want to change career after having a baby. Midwifery?
3 years? Are you already a RN? Certified nurse midwives are RNs who do additional training to be a midwife. You have to have at least a bachelor's degree to enter the program and some states require a masters (like being a nurse practitioner) to enter the midwife program.

I know my degree won't get me into the program... you gotta have a bachelor's of science in nursing.

Can my friend of 30 change career with no degree?

i have a good friend who is a CNA. she has been doing that job for about 10 years now. she wishes she can change careers, but i am not sure if she can with no degree. i know today, more and more jobs are requiring college degrees and it seems as if associates and bachelors may not be enough anymore. here is the problem with her, she makes a good amount of money, but has many loans to pay off, so her check isn't so fat anymore. but she still does not qualify for any government assistance. now why does this information matter? well, even if she did go back to college, could she afford it? could she be eligible for financial aide? i doubt it.

and when will she find the time for school with kids, and she wants to be in her kids lives. she does not want to be an absent parent and i understand that. i also understand there is online courses, even though personally i would never take online courses, but it could be a good alternative for her, but again, how will she pay? and i am assuming online courses are more expensive.

any who, again, i am aware it may be difficult for her to change careers at this time in her life for something that can pay a little more and get her out of her debts, but if you guys have any suggestions, that would be great. again, the choice of college will be a very difficult one for her, because of finances and time. but any ideas, ANY IDEAS at all, will be much appreciated.

thank you all. Can my friend of 30 change career with no degree?
If she can land a job with a company that has tuition reimbursement, she can have her college paid for. Many major banks offer tuition reimbursement.

She may be able to change careers by taking a course in MS Office. Can my friend of 30 change career with no degree?
Your friend needs to talk to someone at the financial aid office at the school she wants to attend. They'll discuss her situation with her and give her appropriate advice about where to find funding for her classes.

(And tuition for online classes is quite often exactly the same as tuition for classes taken in the classroom. You won't be much help to your friend if you ';assume'; things without verifying them!)

No matter how good a friend you may be, in the end, it is your friend, not you, who will make the decision of what she wants to do with her life. If she decides to change careers, please try to give her some positive support and don't be as negative about her chances as you seem to be here!

Need to change career, but how?

okay, I wasted money aka loans on cooking school, but now, I hate the restaurant business, to stressful for me, I'm depressed now because of it.... Now, I want to find something else, but don't know how, I have to work to pay my loan of but I don't know how to do anything else, I would rather have a boring job then a sressful one like a restaurant businessNeed to change career, but how?
Have you considered catering? Or Hospitality? If you are a chef, you are well qualified to run a hotel or hospital kitchen or coordinate catering for large groups (convention center or wedding consultant...)Need to change career, but how?
Research on the internet, talk to friends, etc... the stuff you didn't do before you chose a career you don't like. Some new careers wont require specific training, other's will.. just do what you need to do.
Good question, and a tough one to answer. It sounds like you have great skills in cooking. Is there something still in cooking, out of restaurants, that you can do? Like catering? Try working for a catering company, for a baker, for a company that supplies food/items or services to restaurants. You understand the business so try to take advantage of those skills and knowledge.

Switching to a different career is hard and you will most likely start at the bottom. Find something that interests you.

Remember, all jobs are stressful, there are always bad parts, bad people and bad things at each job... It's all a matter of what you can put with for the pay.

Go to the book store and find some books on changing careers, new career ideas, the hottest jobs etc. Find some inspiration and head off in a new direction (or at least a modified version of what you are doing now).

    Good luck!

I know it may not be an attractive option, but you can always go back to school and put your loans into deferment.

Also consider other jobs you could do with your education and knowledge. Could you teach consumer sciences or culinary ensemble at a junior high or high school? Could you help in menu planning at a school district, or be the hottest lunch lady around? See if the local Meals-on-Wheels program for senior citizens needs help in preparing meals. Grocery store deli attendant?

Those are just a few options. Also, I had no previous experience, but I got into insurance. You can consider telemarketing for a little while, which is not fun and can be stressful, but it is a change.
